The solar deity of ancient Egypt is associated with the scarab, because the rolling of the sun across the horizon mimicked the action that the creatures performed from dawn to dusk. The scarabs have incredible powers of navigation, having been shown to use the sun, the moon, or the stars of the milky way for navigation, depending on what is available to them.
